In Oriental medicine the main onjective is to have a balanced and unobstructed flow of Qi (life force) and substances. By following certain principles and lifestyle changes, we can support optimal wellness.
Eat Thankfully - Eating with a thankful heart starts your meal off with a good attitude. This can only be beneficial. We know the mind affects the nervous system which affects the immune system and many other activities within the body. When we eat thankfully we put ourselves into a frame of mind which supports positive health.
Breath Deeply - Chinese medicine and martial arts puts a strong emphasis upon deep abdominal breathing. This is said to massage our internal organs and provide for better oxygenation of our tissues. Place one hand just below your navel (this is called the `Tantien') and the other hand in the middle of your chest. Now take a deep breath while expanding the abdomen without expanding the chest. This may take practice but it shows how many of us are really `chest breathers' rather than `tummy' breathers. Deep breathing is at the core of all Oriental energy work.
Eat Breakfast - Epidemiological studies (studies of large groups of people) have shown that eating a healthy breakfast is one of the cornerstones of good health and longevity.
Eat Wholegrains - Eating whole grains provides fiber (which is essential for gut health), vitamins and minerals, and slows the absorption of natural suggars. Unfortunately the milling and refining processes remove most of the beneficial nutrition. If I take $100 from you and return $10 and call you "enriched" would you believe me? This is exactly what is being done with refined flours. The less we tinker with it the better it is.
Eat Organic - The average American is exposed to 20 pesticides each day, not to mention herbicides and fertilizers, erc. This can't be ignored! Eating organic reduces our exposure to these chemicals and provides better overall nutritional content.
Eat Variety - especially in regards to grains, fruits and vegetables.
`Let Go' of things you cannot control - worry creates stress, which creates muscle and nervous system tension, which interferes with the flow of energy (Chi).
